OBX Aug/Sept

During August and September Claire and I were working full time at RoadSide and part time at Art’s Place, while living at Claire’s Grandmother Jane’s cottage in Nags Head.  A classic cedar shake sided beach box from the 50’s or 60’s standing in sand on stilts, surrounded by live oaks.  There is a big front porch with rocking chairs. Coming inside the new screen door that Will and I installed, the ceilings and walls are wooden, the floors too.  The living room boasts shag carpet that has been worn down to a soft fluff by years of sandy feet.  There was no A/C so we kept over two dozen original windows propped open with scrap wood from the floors installation. The open kitchen reminds anyone of the galley on a ship. I’ve been told that Jane was an artist, writer, and culinary expert in the field of social meals and family feasts.  Her kitchen proudly proves it.  Staying a summer on the Banks in an original Nags Head cottage is worth being on anyones bucket list.
We still managed to get in plenty of adventures and beach days with our busy work schedules.  9/26 I saw that Lukas Nelson would be playing a show at Kelly’s in Nags Head.  A former co-worker of mine from Studio, Brian Fallon, is now their Tour Manager.  I gave him a call and we were on the list and at the show within the hour!  They rocked.  We spent the rest of the night on the tour bus catching up.
